These were mostly generated with a raytracer written in python. Some came out of a logo interpreter written in Scheme.
This is a picture of a fictional insect. He is actually completely colourless, it's just the lights are green.
Each of the seven cylinders is touching all of the other six. I believe this arrangement is the largest number of such tangential cylinders possible. I got the idea for this picture from MathWorld.
