These are Chapters 7 and 8 from the Unix Programmer's Supplementary Manual, which seem to be the standard reference for an introduction to sockets and IPC on Unix. They're available from ftp.funet.fi/pub/unix/4.3bsd but I've made some easy-to-use pdf files.
